Postpartum Support International (PSI)

Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
WIC is a free nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new moms, infants and children up to age 5 with supplemental foods, breastfeeding support and access to nutrition education. WIC offices are located throughout the state.

Newborn Screening
Newborns receive three screenings at birth while in the hospital – Hearing, Heart (Critical Congenital Heart Defects), and Bloodspot. Provided by the Kansas Department for Children and Families with information about services for children and families. This includes child care assistance, food assistance, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and early childhood education programs. Kansas Head Start/Early Head Start
Kansas Head Start/Early Head Start programs promote the school readiness of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Services are provided in a variety of settings including centers, family child care, and home visits. Head Start programs also engage parents or other key family members in positive relationships, with a focus on family wellbeing.

Postpartum Support International (PSI)
This organization promotes awareness, prevention, and treatment of mental health disorders that impact mothers and fathers during pregnancy and the 12-month postpartum period. PSI offers a toll-free Help Line, online support groups, connections to Support Coordinators in Kansas, and resources.

Kansas Tobacco Quitline
The Kansas Tobacco Quitline (www.KSquit.org or 1-800-QUIT-NOW) provides FREE one-on-one coaching for Kansans ready to quit using any form of tobacco, including vaping. Professional counselling is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in multiple languages.
The Quitline pregnancy program offers up to 5 coaching sessions during pregnancy and 4 sessions postpartum with the same female Coach, and includes the option to receive free text message support.
Materials to promote the Quitline programs can be ordered and shipped to organizations at no cost. Some are available in Spanish.

MyPlate is a reminder to choose a variety of foods every day. The MyPlate website has a great webpage with resources for healthy eating throughout all the stages of life. Well-Woman Resources
A well-woman visit or an annual checkup, is an appointment that helps keep you healthy throughout life. The visit focuses on preventing health problems before they happen, and includes but isn’t limited to things like checking how your body and mind are doing, screening for health risks, and keeping vaccines up-to-date.
