Annual Newborn
In partnership with the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Midwives Alliance, the Kansas Newborn Screening Program created a recognition program for hospitals, facilities, and midwives dedicated to achieving higher newborn screening standards. Healthcare facilities and newborn health care professionals can earn recognition by meeting or exceeding state quality, reporting and timeliness goals or state averages in the following categories:
- Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) Screening
- Hearing Screening
- Collection Age
- Transit Time
- Unsatisfactory Rate for Metabolic and Genetic Screening
2024 Honorees
Sixth Annual Facility Recognitions
In partnership with the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Midwives Alliance, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is pleased to present the sixth annual recognition program for those that provide newborn screening services in Kansas. The sixth annual awards were released October 1, 2025 by KDHE’s Kansas Newborn Screening Program (KS-NBS), honoring birthing facilities, midwives, and screening facilities for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2024.

Fifth Annual Facility Recognitions
In partnership with the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Midwives Alliance, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is pleased to present the fifth annual recognition program for those that provide newborn screening services in Kansas. The fifth annual awards were released March 11th, 2025 by KDHE’s Kansas Newborn Screening Program (KS-NBS), honoring birthing facilities, midwives, and screening facilities for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2023.

Fourth Annual Facility Recognitions
On April 18, 2024, 93 birthing facilities, midwives and screening facilities were recognized for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2022. These modifications have been implemented with the aim of enhancing the way we acknowledge the valuable contributions of all the partners who play a vital role in the success of Kansas Newborn Screening.
Twenty facilities earned a “Gold Award”, and an additional 31 facilities earned the “Silver Award”. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Congratulations to all the 2022 honorees.
2021 Honorees
Third Annual Facility Recognitions
On October 15, 2022, 136 health care facilities and midwives were honored for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2021. Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, and Neosho Memorial Hospital were awarded recognition as the All Around Best of the Best for earning recognition in four or more categories. Eighteen additional facilities earned a “Best of the Best” designation for either point-of-care screenings (hearing and critical congenital heart disease) or metabolic and genetic screenings. Second Annual Facility Recognition Awards
On December 1, 2021, 142 health care facilities and midwives were honored for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2020. Sabetha Community Hospital Inc., Newman Regional Health and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center were awarded recognition as the All Around Best of the Best for earning recognition in four or more categories. Eighteen additional facilities earned a “Best of the Best” designation for either point-of-care screenings (hearing and critical congenital heart disease) or metabolic and genetic screenings. 2019 Honorees
First Annual Facility Recognition Awards
More than 130 facilities and midwives were honored for their dedication to higher newborn screening standards in 2019, which was the inaugural recognition. Birthing facilities and newborn providers earned top honors in up to five general categories by meeting or exceeding state quality, reporting, and timeliness goals. Three of these categories offered honorable mention recognition for performing better than the state average.
Top recognitions went to Kearny County Hospital and Newton Medical Center who were awarded recognition as the “All Around Best of the Best.” Ten additional facilities earned a “Best of the Best” designation for either point-of-care screenings (hearing and critical congenital heart disease) or metabolic and genetic screenings.
