Programs
Welcome to the Kansas Newborn Screening (NBS) Program Information for Professionals and Health Care Facilities page. The success of the Newborn Screening program depends on the coordinated efforts of many health professionals. We hope that health care professionals engaged with our program find what you need here.
In 2022, the Kansas NBS program brought on a Medical Director to support program planning, operations and evaluation. Serving as Kansas’ first state NBS Medical Director, Dr. Kourtney Bettinger plays a critical role in advancing the work of Kansas newborn screening. Dr. Bettinger is a member of the Advisory Council and a primary care pediatrician at The University of Kansas Health System. She serves as a liaison for health care professionals across the state, strives to enhance providers’ experiences with the newborn screening program and newborn screening results, and assists in the management of abnormal newborn screening results when needed.
For inquiries, Dr. Kourtney Bettinger can be reached at Kourtney.bettinger@ks.gov.
We hope that you’ll find the information and resources you need to better support babies, mothers, and families across Kansas.
